What is coaching?

We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.”
- Galileo

Helping people “discover” is what coaching is all about. A coach creates an environment that is intimate, open, and safe from judgment — an environment that invites client exploration and discovery. In the spirit of partnership, a coach is the facilitator of the process, holding the context (agenda, focus, priorities, etc.), and the client is the owner of the content (experience, knowledge, beliefs, values, behavior, goals, etc). Coaching provides the conditions for client learning, healing, growth, and, personal and professional transformation.

How does your coaching work?

My clients have breakthroughs to new, unimaginable futures because they have catapulted themselves beyond the safe, comfortable, familiar, and predictable. I use skills that:

  • Provide and reinforce your safety for risking and stretching
  • Facilitate your clarity and self-discovery for learning
  • Generate possibilities for your growth
  • Foster effective action
  • Aim for the goal and embrace your learning process
  • Hold you accountable
  • Celebrate your big and little wins

Together we maximize your strengths and minimize your limitations. We clear the distractions, roadblocks, and debris, so you have a clear runway for takeoff. We will lift you out of the rut — moving toward your aspirations with momentum, and soaring beyond where you ever thought you could go!The process includes:

  • Personal Inventory of questions, designed for self-discovery
  • Coaching Agreement contract
  • Initial Foundation session, usually about 2 hours, in person or on the phone
  • Weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly sessions (30, 45, or 60 minutes each)
  • Baseline assessment; gap analysis; periodic progress measurements
  • EQ and 360 assessments available, at an additional fee

How long does coaching take?

That’s up to you. Some clients work with me for 6 months. Others work with me for several years. The coaching process engages individuals fully in their learning and growth process. It invites risk and often requires courage to change behaviors, beliefs, and habits. Making these changes typically takes time, yet some changes happen instantaneously, with a small shift in perception. When the presenting issue is handled and you are freed up from constraints, that’s when you can unleash your skills, talents, and creativity and really begin building something more fulfilling.

What are your RATES?

I co-create the design of the coaching structure with you. Together we look at what will serve you best in terms of duration and frequency of sessions — in person/on the phone or a combination.RATES for one-on-one coaching:

  • $350 per hour for CORPORATE/executive clients
  • $250 per hour for LIFE coaching clients
  • $200 per hour for COACHES
  • Initial Foundation sessions are billed at these hourly rates.

  • Payment due by the first of the month.
  • I accept checks and credit cards (VISA, MasterCard).
  • 10% off if you pay six months in advance.

How do I find out if you are the right coach for me?

I believe it is very important that a coach-client relationship is a high-quality match of rapport, trust, mutual respect, and willingness to not only go into the uncomfortable conversations but also to have fun. When a prospective client is interviewing me, I am interviewing the prospective client. I want to work only with people who I love to work with. I will let the prospective client know if I feel we do not have the best match, and in that case, I will provide referrals.

What is your background in coaching?

I am one of the pioneers and leaders in the field of coaching. In 1991 I founded the Living Your Vision ® process and then founded the Academy for Coach Training in Bellevue, Washington in 1997, serving as President and CEO until 2006. We developed curriculum that provides a highly recognized spiritual approach to coaching skills training aligned with empowering and transformational principles and skills. Through the Academy, as well as in association with Antioch University, I have trained and mentored hundreds of certified coaches.

With a vision for how coaching can help to improve our quality of life, I volunteered to help shape the profession. As an executive board member for the first international association, I helped create and establish the credentialing program for aspiring coaches and coach training schools, the skills competencies, ethics, and standards. I am recognized by the International Coach Federation as a Master Certified Coach — the highest designation available.

Why are you a coach?

The first time I experienced coaching, I became a flag-waving champion. I recognized instantly that I am a passionate champion of the human spirit and that coaching is clearly my vocation of destiny. I am most alive when I am facilitating individuals, teams, or organizations to unleash their highest potential and learn how to live their vision, purpose, and values more fully.

My vision is everyone on earth living a rich and fulfilling life, living their personal vision. Coaching is the most effective way I have found to bring this vision to reality.

What makes your coaching effective?

The power and effectiveness of coaching draws more from who I am being in my relationship with you, than from the skills and tools I have been trained to use. Who am I being?

Your partner, committed to supporting you to learn, grow, and achieve your highest and best; your champion, honoring you with unconditional regard, seeing you as resourceful and capable, hearing your deepest longing and calling forth your innate potential; your alter ego, revealing what you are pretending not to know; your tough love when you need to look straight into the mirror or be held firmly accountable; your warm shoulder when you stumble and fall; your light in the dark when you get lost in the dark forest; your cheering section when you are being courageous and victorious. I believe that our quality of life is directly related to the extent we honor our personal/organizational vision, purpose, and values, and when we make choices aligned with them, we unleash our authentic power, passion, and creativity. That power inspires, energizes, and heals us and those around us.

I support clients in making transformational shifts, so they are empowered to:

  • Make better choices; develop new more effective habits and behaviors;
  • Achieve greater ease, clarity of vision, and alignment with core values;
  • Enhance creativity, productivity and work performance; and
  • Achieve more satisfaction, freedom, and fulfillment. In other words, experience more of what is rich and meaningful in life!!

Coaching goes beyond a skill set. It’s a set of principles that, honored as a way of life, can transform the quality our relationships. If we will hold each other as capable and resourceful, suspend our judgments, be curious instead of offering unsolicited advice, listen more / talk less, extend genuine caring, hold ourselves and each other accountable, celebrate our neighbor’s victories, and collaborate in partnership, we will experience a world of peace and harmony and joy.
